This gorgeous home is the perfect example of lakeside living at Walled Lake. Michigan has so many beautiful lakes, rivers and streams. With fairly temperate summers, this means we can spend more time outdoors near water, enjoying all that Michigan has to offer.
Living alongside a lake isn’t much different than living in the middle of a suburb. We still want to spend time with family and friends. Homeowners still want a beautiful landscape, and they still need functional hardscapes.
Here is what we did for one family living at Walled Lake.
Retaining Wall
One of the most important pieces of hardscape for your property, if you’re living near the water, is a retaining wall. While the moods of the lake, ocean or river can be fascinating to watch, the last thing you want is to have the water overtake your property.
To keep their property from eroding and to protect their investment, J & S Landscaping installed a retaining wall for this homeowner. We are an industry leader when it comes to brick work and authorized contractor for Belgard Hardscapes.
A retaining wall doesn’t have to be unattractive. In this case, the owners chose brick pavers that were similar to their home’s façade. The color of the retaining wall ties in with the home’s bricks, as well as the patio and walkways.
In this particular retaining wall, we created room for plantings. Adding some landscaping to the tiered retaining wall brings contract to the surrounding brick, emphasizing both the brick and plants.
Tiered patio and walkway
We created a beautiful patio and walkway for this client living at Walled Lake. In addition to the retaining wall, the homeowners wanted a patio and walkways. Walkways are designed to move people efficiently from one point to another – from the curb or car to the home. They can be as attractive as they are utilitarian.
To save space, we built this walkway to hug the side of the house, rather than extending it out from the door and swinging back around. The walkway ends at the patio, built with light-colored pavers to go with the house façade and rest of the hardscape features.
Outdoor Kitchens and Fire Pits
We love to spend hours outside in the beautiful Michigan weather, especially in spring and fall, when the temperature is “just right.” What better way to entertain your family and friends than with an outdoor kitchen? It can be as simple as a built-in grill with a mantel to hold equipment or as elaborate as your indoor kitchen. And when the temperatures do drop, cozy up around your fire pit.
Landscaping
Lakeside living at Walled Lake doesn’t mean you’ll only be looking at the lake! As you gaze around your yard, or as guests arrive at your front door, you’ll be proud to show off your manicured lawn and beautiful flower beds.
Don’t think you can have that? You can when you call J & S Landscaping! We will suggest the flowers and plants that are best suited to your soil and weather conditions. And if you need mulch, we Michigan’s leading Mulch Delivery company, bringing you the freshest and cleanest mulch from Canada and northern Michigan.
The Extras
There is so much more that goes into making lakeside living so pleasant, whether it’s your permanent home or your second home. For instance, don’t forget to plan for outdoor lighting for safety and to highlight your special plants.
And although you may be living on a lake, water features such as a pool or fountain add ambiance to your outdoor activities.
